Mitzvah Day 2011 was the best ever for Edgware United! The work began at 9:15 when baking ingredients were brought to the shul kitchen for a marathon biscuit baking session that lasted the entire morning and produced some 400 biscuits distributed to local families. Later in the morning the shul Cheder children defied the cold and fog to collect a carload of food and toiletries from shoppers which were taken to the GIFT warehouse for distribution to local families.

The children also audited hundreds of book rests in the main shul and identified the ones that needed repair, and helped to clear away hundreds of old siddurim, Chumashim and other worn books for burial in a Jewish cemetery.
Volunteers helped to pack the food and toiletries products which the children had collected and which donors brought to shul during the course of the morning. In addition to all this, volunteers from Langdon College also helped with packing the food, clearing and bagging the used books and painting the walls in the shul's Beis Hamidrash and cloakroom.
Finally, a group of musicians from the community gathered at Rela Goldhill Lodge to entertain the residents there with a selection of music ranging from the songs used in services to a hit by Oasis. A truly fantastic day!
