Edgware Synagogue - Registration Synagogue for Jewish Schools 2010/11

Following the judgment in the Supreme Court some of our Jewish schools are now adopting a religious practice test for 2010/11 admissions.
We understand that in some cases the schools will be asking prospective parents to complete a Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP), which includes verification of synagogue attendance. We are therefore asking that everyone, whether a member or not, who wishes to have their attendance at synagogue verified for school admissions purposes complies with a set procedure which includes:

Unlike last year there are now three ways in which to obtain the requisist number of points. However so far as EdgwareU is concered we will only deal with Shabbat attendance. If you wish to obtain the requisite points using the other methods we suggest you contact the school.
So far as the Shabbat registration is concerned, you will need to attend a recoginised Shabbat service at least eight times between the 8th May 2010 and the 8th January 2011 (unlike last year there will be no registration on any yomtov even if Shabbat should fall on a yomtov)

    SCHOOLS’ ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Recording Attendance at Synagogue for the purpose of completing a Certificate of Religious Practice (“CRP”)

1.         Any person who wishes to have their attendance recorded for the purposes of a CRP (“the Attendee”) must submit his/her, and his/her child’s, full name, address and date of birth to the synagogue administrator, as soon as possible, but not later than 10 am on the Thursday before the first Sabbath on which he/she wishes his/her attendance to be recorded.

2.         The Shul administrator will create a Register of attendance to be used for each Shabbat service.

3.         A Registration Officer (RO) has been appointed who is responsible for the Register and will ensure that attendances are properly recorded.

4.         On Shabbat the Attendee and his/her child must report in person to the RO on each occasion they attend synagogue, and may be asked to confirm their address and date of birth (please ask at the Shul foyer for further details). The Register will be open between 10.15am and 11am. The child must remain in the service in order to complete their attendance.

5.         All records will be confidential, and will only be used to enable the authorised official to sign the CRP.

To register your child's/children's information with our synagogue please complete the on line form. You do not have to be a member of our synagogue. We must have your child's date of birth. This form (or other contact) must be registered before their attendance at synagogue. The deadline is 10am on the proceeding Thursday.

Once the form has been completed, press the submit button. The information will be forwarded to our office and a record will be kept. When your child attends our Synagogue on Shabbat there will be clear signs (at the entrance) showing how and where to complete the process.
