For many years Edgware has been proud of its Barmitzvah classes, both for the standards of tuition and the way in which the boys are taught.

Syllabus
The children are taught towards taking the prescribed examination of the United Synagogue Barmitzvah syllabus. This is administered by the AJE (Agency for Jewish Education). There is also an oral examination to take two months before his Barmitzvah. The children are also expected to undertake a project. There are many diverse subjects to choose from.

Classes
These are held each Sunday during term time between 9.00am and 1pm. At 9.00am there is davening followed at 9.30 by breakfast. This is organised by the children’s parents. Following, Birchat hamazon (grace after meals) each child is taught individually his maftir, berachot and haftarah. If he shows enough aptitude and interest he will also learn to read from the sedra

Following a break the children will learn from the syllabus for the Barmitzvah test. The parents are kept informed as to progress of their child.
